Acne Therapy Details

Your skin deserves special attention

A clear complexion is often difficult to achieve when you have over active sebaceous glands. Oil produced by your sebaceous glands may become trapped in tiny facial pores or follicles. If the plug closes off to the surface, the follicle or pore will bulge creating a whitehead. Pore systems that stay open may become stained with debris resulting in a blackhead. Pimples or acne may form if bacteria proliferate in the pore.

Our office offers Omnilux blue™ photodynamic therapy combined with Omnilux revive™ to treat and destroy the bacteria that cause acne or pimples. The Omnilux™ photodynamic therapy helps to clear pores, exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce the acne inflammatory response. Omnilux™ photodynamic therapy may be administered in conjunction with the topical application of Levulan® (aminolevulinic acid) depending on your treatment goals.

Your treatment will be administered by an esthetician under the direction of a licensed plastic surgeon. Treatments generally last between 15-30 minutes depending on your skin type and the selected light based therapy you have chosen to manage your skin problem. A variety of acne treatment packages are available, typically individuals will require a total of 8 Omnilux™ light treatments over a 4 week period alternating between Omnilux blue™ and Omnilux revive.™ Post treatment individuals need to avoid sun exposure and may experience redding of the skin with gradual skin exfoliation depending on the type of treatment.

Our physician and estheticians may recommend a variety of medical skin care products to assist you in controlling your acne. Additionally, our office offers an assortment of skin treatment facials specifically designed for acne prone skin including chemical peels.
